Why does Roll the Rock exist?

Following Andy Wilson being made redundant from Harrogate and District YFC he spent time praying and talking to Christian leaders whom he respected. After many times of prayer, and listening to other people’s prayers, and comments, Andy soon realised that God had called him to stay in the Harrogate region and also to remain in Youth work. Andy then contacted a number of people to see if they would like to support this ministry, and the response enabled him to launch RolltheRock on the 1st October 2004.

What's Our Vision?

The vision of Roll the Rock is to remove all obstacles preventing young people finding out the truth of the Christian faith, and enabling them to have a relationship with Jesus Christ.

What Are Our Objectives?

1: To ensure that each young person in the region hears about the love of God, and knows that it exists for them.
2: To ensure that each young person in the region comes to realise their worth and value in society.
3: To ensure that young people in the region make informed decisions/choices in their life.
4: To ensure that throughout the region we can be a resource to Churches, Schools and other youth workers.
5: To ensure that young people in the region are able to attend relevant Christian events.

What Do We Believe?

1: We believe in the Holy Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
2: We believe that Jesus Christ was nailed to a cross to enable all mankind to be forgiven for the things they do wrong, and to bring them into a closer relationship with God. We also believe that on the third day Jesus rose from the grave back to life so that mankind's relationship with God would be forever.
3: We believe that the Bible is the word of God and that his Spirit inspired its content.
4: We believe that Christians should live a life according to the will of God.
5: We believe in the reality of the Virgin birth.
6: We believe that people are not just called into relationship with God, but also each other regardless of nationality, colour, gender, age, social background, job, or anything else that would try and divide mankind and bring upset, hurt, pain, sadness destruction or grief.
7: We believe that young people have a roll to play within society and the Church.
8: We believe that young people should be listened too, as well as being told to listen.
9: We believe in the demonstration of God's unconditional love through the way in which we act with others.
10: We believe that young people should be empowered to put their abilities and faith into action.

How Will We Go About Our Work?

Where there are young people, there we will be. We will be working in schools, in local communities, in youth clubs and with Church youth groups. whether it is on the streets or in schools, youth clubs, or Church youth groups, we will always look to maintain our relationship with those young people we have met as continuity and continued relationship is extremely important. If a new opportunity comes our way, we will ensure that we are able to fulfil what is being asked of us.
Schools work will involve RE lessons and PSHE lessons, assemblies and Christian Unions.
Work in the community will involve being out in the community on regular set times to establish and develop relationships.
Youth club work will look to bring a moral and spiritual element to their work as well as the social and cultural elements.
Church work will look to support youth leaders, work with youth groups, and provide Christian events for the young people to come too.
